You have three big tech companies all on the mobile battleground map. Like any war-based strategy game like Starcraft or Command & Conquer you have the ability to see which sides do what. Because of the media, the Internet, and press events we see Apple, Google, and Microsoft in this mobile landscape.
What’s great is they each offer different styles. Apple with skeuomorphic, Google with hybrid, and Microsoft with purely digital. It has yet to be proven if there can be three styles on the same map comfortably playing.
There are three distinct mobile user interfaces that challenge one another all being decided upon by the end user. Any UI adjustments made create even a greater challenge. This is the case for market leader, Apple.  High-res

Before After

Premium Pixels by Orman Clark has been busy.

The popularity for digital resource shops, markets, communities, or call it whatever you want to call them is at a high point. Premium Pixels started in 2010 and Orman’s focus on high quality work that had this sense of similar style and taste led him to and the pixels along the way up to fame.

As more and more people came to download these great pixels for their own usage and admiration, Themezilla was founded in May of this year. Themezilla is where Orman a few other talented people build even more great stuff for the web including Wordpress themes and plugins.

So, today focus was brought back over to Premium Pixels. Before was a not so elegant UX of downloading both new and old resources. Today, you create an account that is free and you can download anything and everything. I’d imagine this was for control and tracking purposes from a business standpoint. Other changes are:

  • The width is slightly narrowed that makes the viewing on a mobile device even nicer (no need to be responsive here)
  • Nice tiny buttons for easy liking and downloading on the featured images
  • Adapted to the style that is found on the new Themezilla
  • Other minor adjustments and rearrangements made that any pixel or design geek will notice

It’s clear that Premium Pixels is part of Themezilla even more now. While there were subtle adjustments and rearrangements made, it feels like a full redesign. Certainly a full redesign is different than a complete redesign.

This is what the design looked like. Here it is now.

Icon Library Organization: The Noun Project Versus the Pictos Way

Icons that are in uniform and simple have been developed in chucks over time, but now there are libraries being built. Once a library is constructed there is greater attention to what’s all included, what’s missing, and possibly know if there will be more styles or collections.

These icon libraries such as The Noun Project, Pictos, and Symbolicons to name a few are being crucial resources for any UI or UX designer striving for simplicity, character, and uniformity.  The attention to choice of icons has never been higher before.

With rising popularity comes debates over the mission, ideas, and methods behind these libraries.

Leap represents an entirely new way to interact with your computers. It’s more accurate than a mouse, as reliable as a keyboard and more sensitive than a touchscreen.

Apple will most likely buy this (maybe) as they have shied away from a touchscreen desktop or laptop. The interaction created is similar to the experience on any iOS device but without the awkward feeling (maybe).

The debate here is motion over touch. While motion is cool and has been successful in games or other purposes where it makes sense there is a great deal of gratification from a touch interface.
